BUDDHA - A Story of Enlightenment

Lately I read "BUDDHA - A Story of Enlightenment" by Deepak Chopra. BUDDHA was the most free person among anyone who ever walked on the earth. This man crossed all the limits. He did what everyone should do. He was a prince. Prince in general has the best life. If god give me an option to be either king or prince, I will choose for prince. Buddha's childhood name was Siddhartha. From his childhood he showed is meditative sign. He was so sensitive that he used to get disturbed by killing even ants.

He did felt the pain. Although he had everything. He was a prince. What would a prince need to worry for? The revolution happened when he saw a corpse. Till 29 years, he doesn't know that people die also. Once he knew that people dies, eventually, and he is gonna die too, he left his wife, son, father, kingdom, his servant Channa, everyone. His father Suddhodana kept him in 3 palace surrounded by walls. He gave him lots of court girls, but Siddhartha did not show any interest to them. Although Siddartha got attracted towards Sujata. ;). That's so natural.

After he renounced the world, he became a monk. He did intense practice for 6 years deep inside forest. Meanwhile, he came across some couple of teachers. But he was not satisfied with anyone of them. Finally, he choose d himself to be his teacher. Later he used to take extremely low food intake. His body became like a skeleton. Thinn. And nothing was happening. Then few wandering singing girls were passing by him. He eared their song. Then he got the idea of middle-way. And he determined that he would be meditating under this banyan tree until he get full illumination.

Mara attacked him from many side. But, Gautama was calm and collected. Finally, he burnt his total desire. The desire of getting enlightenment also vanished. There was nothing into his mind. There was no thought for him. But, mind always needs something to work on. And when there is nothing to work on, mind works on god. This is what happened with buddha. In that mindless state he remained for many days. He remained submerged into infinite consciousness. When he opened the eye, he was buddha. After that he started walking into the forest. He saw that entire forest is passing into him. And he is passing into trees. He was easily able to vanish anything. He was able to see any distant place. He was able to do anything just by his wish. He had full control over nature. In just a blink of his eye he remembered his previous 10,000 life times.

Buddha went to 5 monks and made them his disciple. Then he spread ed his message. He said, this life is indeed painful. And there are reason behind this. But one can always find the reason and be happy.

The observer

When do you become observer? Being an observer means being aware of what's going on. But, who is the observer? It's the indwelling consciousness within us. The same consciousness is spread ed everywhere. And is in every human being. However, that pure consciousness is wrapped by the clouds of ego. It's your ego which prevents you from being observer.

Ego makes your heart like a stone, It makes your heart like barren land where no fruit of happiness can survive. First you have to drop your ego to understand the all pervasive consciousness. Understanding that you are the doer alone is the most foolish act. Doer is the consciousness. You falsely assume that you are doing. If you become silent observer you'd never say i am doing.

Either you exist or GOD exists. Both cannot exist together. When you exist, your ego boosts you up. Then GOD is absent. There is not much space in this universe that two things can survive. Only one will exist at a time - either you or GOD. This is what is Vedanta. Non dualism.

What is the relationship between ego and GOD?

GOD is inactive. GOD doesn't interfere your freedom. GOD let you do whatever you want to within natural laws. Ego is active. Ego most vibrant. Your ego will create the gap between you and god. And if you become observer of your ego that will bridge the gap.

Many says everything is GOD. That's true only when you become the observer. The witnesse. Otherwise you are everything. GOD will not hamper your natural evolution but when you become pure observer, the evolution will happen by GOD. That way you won't be bounded by the laws of karma's. Otherwise, your ego will accumulate lots of karma's. The only way to destroy the effect of karma's is to become pure observer.

You yourself don't let the things happen. You are the biggest problem of yourself. There is a story. An elephant was crossing the bridge. Out of his weight the bridge started shaking. The ant on the elephant said "I shock the bridge". Elephant said, "yeah, you are also there, I didn't Even heed you". Your ego is like that ant sitting on the elephant like infinite consciousness saying "I am the doer". Don't be ant. Ego is nothing but condensed manifestation of consciousness.
